madvertise reveals what iOS apps us Brits download the most and when we can get the best deals
London/Berlin, 22, November 2011: If you’re an avid app downloader, you’ll have no doubt wondered at some point when is it possible to pick up some good deals on the App Store. Good news – the wait to find out is now over for us Brits. madvertise, a leading European mobile ad network, has teamed up with AppZapp, the bargain guide for the App Store, to discover not only what types of iOS app are the most popular in the UK, but also on which days are best to browse for new apps and on what days shoppers can pay less for the apps they’re looking for.
Summary of key findings:
- A total of 19.58% for the iPad and 18.00% of app prices for the iPhone are lowered on a Friday – best day to get your apps!
- On Thursdays, the iPad sees a 17.90% rise in price and a similar 17.36% increase in price for iPhone apps – avoid!
- The ‘Games’ category is the most popular category for iOS in the UK, however just under two fifths of the whopping 57,215 gaming apps are free!
- None of the top 5 categories (see below) see a price increase on Fridays
What do Brits download the most?
Firstly, madvertise and AppZapp identified the top 5 app categories in the UK. For the iPhone, these were:
Games (15.9%)
- Books (11.81%)
- Entertainment (11.12%)
- Education (8.48%)
- Lifestyle (7.56%)
For the iPad, it’s a similar story:
- Games (18.21%)
- Books (15.9%)
- Education (12.71%)
- Entertainment (8.31%)
- Lifestyle (7.19%)
What are the best days to shop for apps?
The research then looks at the best days for iPhone and iPad users to keep an eye out for new apps to download. The research found that:
- Most new apps for the iPhone and iPad are added on Wednesdays and Thursdays
- Thursdays and Fridays are undoubtedly the most active so users should pay close attention – just before the weekend is a hugely popular time to browse and purchase apps
- Thursdays and Fridays is the time when most price changes in the App Store occur
What days can app shoppers get the best deals?
And now most importantly, a look at how the price of apps fluctuates over the course of a week. The findings below inform iOS users of the day they should avoid and when they can get their apps for cheaper. The research found that:
- A total of 19.58% for the iPad and 18.00% of app prices for the iPhone are lowered on a Friday
- On Thursdays however, the iPad sees a 17.90% rise in price and a similar 17.36% increase in price for iPhone apps
- The Games category is the most popular category in the UK, however just under two fifths of the whopping 57,215 gaming apps are free
- Thursdays see a hike in price for Finance and Travel apps
- Sunday is the quietest day for iOS
- None of the top 5 categories see a price increase on Fridays
- Fixed prices of apps fluctuate from day to day
- Friday is most definitely the best day to go app shopping!
